Caretaking

If you imagine all things on and of Earth as a whole, you can see the underlying pattern.  It is like a spider's web. Push on one strand and the whole web changes in form.  Push too hard, and a section of the web can distort or break.  The interaction of species is knowledge our ancestors possessed, through constant experience in their daily lives.  Careful observation allowed this web to became clear to them over time.
COTEF programs promote attaining a sustainable balance in our harvesting of materials and food.  This balance is between what we can harvest from the landscape and what the landscape is capable of providing without harm, which will ultimately be beneficial to the ecosystem.  We call this "Caretaking".
